1 No advert has been located but the Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald and North and South Wales Independent, 6th May 1904, places the show ‘on the field outside the town, belonging to Mr Henry Roberts, auctioneer’.

2 The Aberystwyth Observer and Merionshire News, 12th May 1904, records that ‘The tents covered the whole of the Vicarage field.’

3 ‘The Groe’, according to the Radnor Express, 19th May 1904; ‘The whole of the Gro, from the Boating pavilion to Strand street’, Brecon County Times, 20th May 1904

4 The venue advertised in the Carmarthen Weekly Reporter, 29th April and 6th May 1904, was Morgan’s Arms Field, Water Street. See however the Carmarthen Weekly Reporter, 13th May 1904:

Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.

EXHIBITION TO BE NEAR RHYDYGORSE.

Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, which will be at Carmarthen to-day (Friday), will be located in the field belonging to Mr Ben Jones, Golden Lion, Lammas-street, situated near Rhydygorse, Johnstown, and not at the Morgan Arms Field, as previously announced.

See also the Carmarthen Journal and South Wales Weekly Advertiser of the same date:

Buffalo Bill at Carmarthen.

The attention of our readers is drawn to the fact that Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show will be held to-day (Friday), at Rhydygorse Field, opposite Ystrad Johnstown, and not in the Morgan Arm’s (sic) Field, as has gained currency.

The Western Mail, 14th May 1904, writing after the event, placed the show ‘on a ten-acre field opposite the Ystrad Grounds’.

5 Mrs Stuart Peters, in The History of Pembroke Dock, (London: Elliot Stock, 1905), at p. 138, identified the site as ‘a large field nearly opposite Bierspool Farm’. The site, on London Road, is now the home of Pembroke Dock Harlequins Rugby Football Club.

6 The Southern Times and Dorset County Herald, 11th June 1904, provides a more detailed description:

The show was held in Mr. Marvin Lock’s spacious field below the Recreation Ground.

7 The Barking, East Ham and Ilford Advertiser, 25th June 1904, offers the clarification that Mrs Harrison Gray was the owner of the ground and Mr C. J. Fewell, the tenant.
